MATCH REPORT FROM GMC V MERSEYSIDE ON SUNDAY 12th SEPTEMBER 2021

GREATER MANCHESTER COUNTY POOL – BACK IN ACTION.

Along with the rest of the country, GMC Pool has had a bleak time during the past 18 months with the spread of the Covid virus.  Our sincere respects to all our friends within our sport who have suffered during this period.

Sunday September 12th 2021 was the date when County Pool returned to our calendar with a match involving our Mens “A”, Mens “B” and Senior teams taking place at our headquarters Savanna Club.  Our thanks to the management for their support of our county organisation, with the club owner South African International J.J. Faul who competes for our “A” team.

Our “A” team led by captain Steve Mac had a brilliant result of 24 frames to 20 against a strong Merseyside team.  Steve, Jimmy Johnson, Rob Hillyard, Karl Clarke all won 3 of their 4 games.

The first section was a 7-4 lead to GMC, but Merseyside came back to take the second section by 9-2 to give them a halfway lead of 13-9.  GMC then took the third section by 9-2 and the last section by 6-5 to take the match.

Sean Doyle led the “B” team to a 26-18 winning result with 6-5 in the first section and 9-2 in the second to give a half way lead of 15-7 to GMC.  Merseyside fought back to take the third section by 6-5 with the fourth section going back to GMC by the same score.

Chris Wilson won all 4 of his frames, with Vinny Moulin, Russ Tabern, John Noone and Kye Lavelle taking 3 wins from 4 frames.

Captain Neil Hamer a Northern Ireland international player led his former national champions team to a 27 frames to 8 winning margin, with success in all four of the sections played.

Paul Taylor won 4 out of 4 frames, with Harry Roberts, Facat Buta, Ian Sutton and Alan Hayden each been successful in 4 of the 5 frames they played.

The return fixture will be played on 5th December (Provisional Date) at the Merseyside venue.

Both counties teams above have been chosen to represent Region Two at the 2021 National Finals at Vauxhall Holiday Park in March 2022.
